Why Wonderland Project?
Hi, I’m Coltrane. This is my personal why.
Just like you, I’ve experienced the highs and lows of life. I am a mom, sister, daughter, lover, philanthropist, and a really good friend. I love to travel, read, spend time with my family, and I am in constant search for how to elevate my own consciousness and deepen my spiritual connection to myself, to others and to the planet.
I started the Wonderland Project because I experienced severe trauma in my childhood, plus some intensely painful experiences in my adulthood. It wasn’t until I found plant medicine that I could really understand how to heal my wounds from domestic violence, betrayal, emotional, psychological and physical abuse, unexpected death, inappropriate sexual advances at too early an age, oppression and a society that guilts and shames women. I openly share my story because no woman should feel isolated and alone because of her experiences.
CHILDHOOD TRAUMA
Like many children who felt the impact of abuse and neglect, I was ashamed of my story and my family of origin. Survival can be a lonely place. Who can truly understand the complexities of physical, mental or emotional traumas unless they have lived it?
I never felt safe in my body growing up. “Home” was a physically and emotionally violent place. I know the sting of a belt, and the real threat of guns to scare you into submission. Sexism, racism, oppression and financial instability was the norm. My upbringing was a war zone filled with minefields of uncontrollable rage. I learned how to fend for myself at too early an age.
To add to the complex PTSD that was my childhood, I sadly lost a dear friend to suicide in my early twenties, managed the stress of suicide ideation of a family member, experienced betrayal and the weight of divorce. Although traditional therapy works for many, I’ve never felt “held” or understood by the therapies I tried. The power dynamics felt too similar to my domineering upbringing, and western systems don’t require therapists to do their own healing.
PSYCHEDELIC HEALING
On my path toward healing, I had read all the books, taken all the classes, and tried all sorts of traditional therapy. It wasn’t until my first psychedelic healing experience that I released my constant nagging fear of annihilation. It was like twenty years of really good therapy in just a few hours.
MDMA was very impactful for feeling safe enough in my body to try the profound and transformational healing with sacred plants such as Ayahuasca, Psilocybin (Magic Mushrooms), Bufo (5meo-dmt), Huachuma (Mesculin), and Iboga (Ibogaine). Each giving me a complete understanding of the roots of my trauma, a felt sense of connection to the numinous, and guidance to transcend my traumas and find meaningful purpose.
WONDERLAND PROJECT
My personal experiences from trauma to transcendence are what allow me to hold sacred space for other women to heal. This is the perspective that Wonderland Project brings - healed women supporting the healing of other women on their chosen psychedelic plant medicine path.
Sometimes a woman who has suffered trauma doesn’t need to be pathologized, she may simply needs the support and witnessing of another woman with similar experiences who can be a template for healing and transformation. What was once unbearable can unfold delicately in our sacred spaces of healing.
Many scientists will agree that psychedelic plant medicine teaches us that true healing comes from within. It is the plant medicine that helps you to go to those places where your inner healing magic begins to work.
I am so grateful to finally feel safe and at ease in my body. Those with trauma deserve to experience the freedom that other’s take for granted.
After a few more healing experiences and learning from many Wisdom Keepers from the global south, where plant medicine and community is part of their tradition, it was time for me to pay it forward.
It is an honor and a privilege to support the mothers and women whose chosen path is plant medicine and psychedelic care, but do not have access to it. I believe that everyone deserves to bring wonder back into their lives to experience hope, healing, and wholeness. Our kids, and future with no PSTD, are counting on it.
This is my why behind the Wonderland Project, and why this invitation to invest in a future with no PTSD is crucial.
Thank you for joining us.
